Dimensions: 0.21m (E-W), 0.26m (N-S), 0.04m deep
Discussion: 4996 was a small, circular cut through the floor surface 5090 in the south east corner of space 178/ building 23 which was filled with an organic rich deposit 4995. It was distinctive in the neatness of its edges and carefully levelled base but is difficult to interpret beyond this. (See 4995 for some interpretative suggestions).

Base Break: curves slightly, but almost 90 degree base break of slope
