Dimensions: 0.29m (E-W), 0.26m (N-S), 0.08m deep 

Discussion: 5006 was a soft ashy deposit with patches of plaster and occasional clay balls that filled the small 'egg-shaped' cut 5008 in the south east corner of building 23/ space 178. Its composition suggests that it might be directly related to the final use of the oven F540 into which it was cut. It could have alternatively have been the waste from another oven nearby which was depositied here after the use of F540. 

Consistency: friable 

Colour: pale brownish-grey 

Texture: silty ash 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: 5% charcoal, 2% oven debris, 5% plaster, 2% clay ball, occasional tiny pebbles 

Post-depositional Features: none 

Basal Boundary: sharp and distinct, lining cut 5008
