Dimensions: 0.40m (E-W), 0.65m (N-S), 0.03m deep 

 

Discussion: 5007 was a mixed layer of scorched reddish-brown silt and plaster which directly overlay the floor surface 5083 next to the southern wall of building 23/ space 178. It represents either a very truncated 'clean' floor layer, or more likely, a floor packing layer. 

 

Consistency: friable 

Colour: deep reddish brown with blobs of whitish plaster 

Texture: silt with clayey silt blobs 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: 20% plaster (patches and flecks), <5% charcoal flecks, 2% burnt oven demolition debris, occasional flecks of obsidian 

Post-depositional Features: none obvious 

Basal Boundary: sharp, smooth and distinct, sloping from west to east
