Discussion: 5083 was a thin layer of orange-brown floor surface which ran up to the superstructure of oven F 539 to the west. It ran almost continuously up to a clear edge on its eastern side where it lipped up to the 'dirty' area in the south east corner of building 23/ space 178. It appears to have been the earliest definition of this particular division between 'clean' and 'dirty' areas in the southern half of the building. Before this the division was to the west and defined by the edge of the oven (F 539) superstructure.
