Discussion: 5095 was the clayey, obsidian rich deposit that filled cut 5111 in the south east corner of building 23. The upper most surface of the deposit was mixed and clayey. Beneath this it was more ashy and contained numerous pieces of obsidian and quite a lot of bone fragments. The high obsidian content, suggests that it relates in some way to the working of obsidian in the area. (as in evidenced in some later floor deposits). The neat nature of the cut that contained the deposit (see 5111) suggests that the cut was made for something more important than rubbish. It could be that the pit originally contained a hoard of obsidian, which was then removed and worked and the waste from this work, used to refill the hole in the floor.
