Discussion: 5192 was a thin spread of ashy material which appears to have been the trampled remains of rake out from the earliest phase of oven F 555. Rather than being a single deposit which was removed from the bottom of the oven, it seems more likely that it is the result of scraping out ashy waste over a long period, which has then been swept up and deposited elsewhere. The remnants of this acitivity being repeated over and over again during this phase of use of the oven, seems to have slowly accumulated and been trampled into the floors around the entrance of the oven, producing this deposit, which is fine and intermingling with the clayey layer beneath.
