NB - phytoliths ?artefact from c.919.2 / 968.5 / 1003.41
A large number of objects, including animal bone + potsherds, lay on or just above 5231 - given their coincidence with the 'dirty' floor at the S end of the space they are considered to be 'in-situ' refuse rather than part of 5228
Recognition: defined as arbitrary layer below 5210 + approximately 10cm above floor.

Condition: generally slightly moist
Consistency: firm
Colour: predominantly mid/light brown (but mixed with darker material)
Texture: silty clay loam
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: varying proportion of light yellowish brown rather sticky plaster-like material, light grey-brown sandy plaster (akin to that on walls + floor 5234), dark greyish brown clayey ?mudbrick; oramge sandy brick (generally more plastery than 5210) + c1% charcoal within the darker soil
Post-depositional Features: not evident
Basal Boundary: generally clear/sharp though mixed nature of surface 5231 made interface hard to follow precisely
