Discussion: Deposit akin to 5210 underlying cleaner, midden-like 5229. Runs out in centre of room against 5239 + 5242. Up to 15cm removed in W of space but consistently less to E where it was essentially a thin ??? over surface 5240. 5238 also includes a cleaning scrape over 5241/5242 in the NE part of square (S12).
Recognition: mixed deposit in N half of space underlying 'midden like' 5229

Execution: trowel; excavated in 1m squares
Condition: generally dry
Consistency: firm, hard in patches (especially by W wall)
Colour: mixed - generally darker brown to N + lighter (because more plastery) to S + W
Texture: silty clay loam (with patches of other composition)
Bedding: massive but heterogeneous
Inclusions: the majority of the unit consists of lumps of plaster + mudbrick collapse of varying types, size + density cf 5210. charcoal - c1%, more in patches. Phytolith - c2% along W side
Post-depositional Features:
Basal Boundary: generally irregular + clear, but diffuse/hard to see in area of W + NW space
