Unit 5389
Category: Layer dug in 2002
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: building fill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Fill of spaacee 202. Distimguished from 5391 to e by lesser ammounts of brick. Originally appeared to underlie 5391- ie the latter came off 5389 - so 5389 was extended up to the e wall F826 (where x1 found). However, a relitively thin scrape revealed more orange brick at the e end so the e/w distinction continues downwards
5389 stopped at a level when (to the w) the fill became more patchy and hearth F828 emerged
Recognition: room fill in w of space 202 lying below 5391 which contains more burnt brick and ash
Definition: poorly defined in relation to 5391
Execution: trowel
Condition: dry
Consistency: friable
Colour: grey brown
Texture: silty clay loam
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: 5% white plaster frag, 5% burnt brick, <2% charcoal flecks
