Unit 5398
Category: Layer dug in 2002
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: building fill,Make up
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Lumpy brick and plaster collapse against e side of hearth F828 and its platform. No clear surface was seen in this area although 5398 apparently underlies the small patch of plaster floor to rhe n (5397) and overlies the surface to the e (5400-1) which dips down into the hollow below 5398.
5398 overlies a relatively even but patchy fill (or surface) without the lumpy brick charicterising 5398
Animal disturbance in the SW area of this deposit may have introduced intrusive material.
Recognition: S of floors 5396 and 5397, against e side of F828, was a lumpy mix of plaster and brick fragments, either make up associated with the late use of the oven of fill of a basin/hollow on this side of the feature.
