Discussion: This is the top layer of this SE foot of the foundation. It is a layer that consists of material coming from erosion, Mellaart's spoil, mixed with the top soil. We took quite a lot of soil out to see what was going on beneath the areas where there seems to be some collapsed wall material. After the clearance, I think we came down to about 3 different walls. Need a bit more excavation to understand fully.
We did not sieve these deposits as we had no time and just handpicked big finds. 

 

Consistency: loose @N edge, firm @ SE corner, loose @ SW corner 

Colour: light greyish brown 

Texture: sandy clay 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: a bit ashy, not much charcoal, building rubble (mudbrick, mortar) not as much bone as midden deposits, pottery (including later stuff) 

Post-depositional Features: Quite a bit of animal, plant and insect 

Basal Boundary: diffuse
