Unit 6524

Category: layer    dug in 2000

Area: Trench I

Interpretive Categories: Space infill

Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous

Dimensions: 1.5m EW x 0.4m NS x 0.12m deep

Discussion: This has been defined as part of room fill of space192. It was actually quite a mýxed deposit and at one part a yellow plastery-mortarish composition came out, but it was not defined with any feature, so I think it was actually just part of the room collapse. Besides this, there wasn't anything different of the fill.

Recognition: The layer has been recognised south of cut 6521 as room fill in between walls. It has been defined by colour from the western section of cut 6521

Definition: Ditto A

Execution: Trowel and shovel

Condition: Dry

Consistency: Moderately firm

Colour: The main fill - 10YR 5/1 grey, Orange, mortarish stuff seen on section - 2.5YR 7/4 pale yellow, Ashy deposit seen on section - 2.5YR 5/2 greyish brown

Texture: Maın fill - silty clay loam, orange mortarish stuff - clay, ashy deposit - silty loam

Bedding: Massıve, except for one part with the orange ashy stuff and I believe that was just part of collapse

Inclusions: Main fill - charcoal, phytolith, some bone and pottery, some bits of plaster. Orange mortar - very small bits of phytolith. Ashy deposit - charcoal, phytolith and plaster in very small bits and only containing 5% of fill

Post-depositional Features: Animal activity and roots
