Unit 6695
Category: layer dug in 2001
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: floor and packing
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: A small unit, started with scraping the thin white plastery layer, looks like a packing of some sort, but then we decided to scrape white plaster flecks further to the west. Further on it seemed plausible to scrape more and we hit a fairly continuous white "floor" (don't know yet) but very thin. It couldn't be traced accurately to the east. We found just patches. Since it all looks like packing, seems as if reddish and white layers are superimposed and unlikely to present anything long lasting. To the east we traced tiny dark patchy layer between red and white layers, obsidian (piece), occasional charcoal in the greyish thin layer which is present only to the east. Towards the place where the "screen wall" was it's sloping reddish packing layer is firmer to the south it seems. But it also seems that these packing/floor layers are stretching from the oven base to the north to the fire place in the SW corner or this space (158). This is now a rather big unit in terms of surface. We hit the black layer which is, so far, fairly easy to follow and continuous. We're closing this unit and opening two new ones, dividing, thus arbitrarily with the intention to hit black layer (basal boundry) on the whole surface if possible. We're continuing as 8104. A big unit in the end overlying what would later be uncovered- a white plaster floor!
