Discussion: Upper fill of large grave F726, consisting of loose homogenous material containing abundant residual Chalcolithic material. Overlying stone and clay capping of burial chamber (7217). 

 

Recognition: Clear rectangular area of soft material 

Definition: Loose material defined by four straight edges 

Execution: Mattock, trowel, shovel 

Condition: Warm, dry and windy 

Consistency: Very loose 

Colour: 10YR 6/2 light brownish grey (dry), 10YR 4/2 dark greyish brown (moist) 

Texture: Silty loam 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: c. 2% pot, <1% stones, bone, obsidian 

Post-depositional Features: Abundant roots, burrows and insect disturbance 

Basal Boundary: Clear boundary with underlying stone and clay capping and tiles
