Discussion: 7590 (within cut 8706) is the wall foundation for the eastern outer wall of late period building - 41. So far (22/7/03) only two sondages have been excavated through building 41's outer wall foundations. At the surface, the wall foundations throughout the building (including the parti walls, but with the exception of walls around space 215) appear as one single mass with no seperation visible. However, as excavation of the wall foundations is highly unlikely to happen this season, we're playing safe and giving each 'separate' section of foundation individual unit no's. To be cont.
NB. 7590 is physically below topsoil 7547 but stratigraphically below wall collapse.

Recognition: Clearly defined wall foundation - immediately visible after removal of overlying topsoil.

Definition: Difference in colour and texture, as opposed to Neolithic material, which the foundation is cut into.

Execution: Only excavated in sondage at present-mattock and trowel

Condition: Hot and dry

Consistency: Firm. very compacted

Colour: Greyish - mid to dark brown

Texture: Clayey - Fine sandy silt

Post-depositional Features: None visible in section, but weather erosion at surface.

Basal Boundary: Abrupt, very distinct, slightly wavy, anthropic
