Unit 7940
Category: layer dug in 2004
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: fill and wall baulk
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: Along the east wall there was a cluster of animal bone along with 4 plastered horn cores (7920). This unit was mostly an arbitrary baulk of room fill that we had dug around to avoid the horn core. At the base of the unit, there was another large plastered horn core found sticking out of the baulk. The horns were recorded seperately but were dug out of this fill. There was also a large amount of discussion as to whether or not this baulk was a truncated surface or not. After excavation, we concluded that it was not a surface and that it was just hard, compact room fill with the inclusion of a possible feasting deposit. The horns most likely represent destruction and deliberate discard.
X1, the horn core, was later included in the horn core cluster 7920.
