Unit 8478

Category: layer    dug in 2002

Area: North

Dimensions: 190 x 70 cm

Discussion: Removal of floor # 8 in SW quad. Of F. 173 to match floor # 9 in F. 162, which is the same as floor # 9 in F. 173 and also the lip which separates F. 173 from F. 170 since floor # 9 in in F. 170 is the same as floor # 8 in F. 173. Following removal of floor # 8 in F. 173 the floor in F. 162 and F. 173 should be on the same level. Easily popped on floor # 8 to reveal a distinct peaked lip this separates F. 173 from 170. Although the plaster was thin in this area, it was easy to define. Towards the N and W of U. 8478, the plaster was thicker for floor # 9 and easy to define beneath the packing of floor # 8. This unit met up with units 8484 and 8479 to form a continuous floor beneath the packing although the plaster in F. 162 seems much thinner and difficult to define from the plaster in F. 173.
