Interpretive Categories: midden 

 

Data Category Information: Location: in abandoned building; Deposition: finely bedded

 

Discussion: ETH; Obsidian point found, pt still intact. Lots of bone found in charcoal. Charcoal layer appears to go deeper as midden slopes.

SMc; Midden deposit to east of wall (11368), consists of 6 -7 different layers, some burned some silty, some plaster debris in SE corner. Mixed in places, basal interface quite diffuse in places. Overlies dump of building rubble in NW corner. Deposits slope to SE where they are deeper. Wall (11368) exposed on eastern side now. (11369) is deposit on west side of wall, pos part roomfill or if part midden material then prob contemporary with (11370). (11370) represents continued dumping within this space of a variety of rubbish types. 

 

Recognition: midden deposit below (11367). Charcoal rich deposit taken as division between this deposit below. 

Definition: to east of wall 11368. 

Execution: trowel, hand mattock 

Condition: dry 

Consistency: firm 

Colour: variable 

Texture: silt 

Bedding: compound layered 

Inclusions: charcoal, plaster, brick frags, stone, bone, pot, obsidian 

Post-depositional Features: animal disturbance 

Basal Boundary: gradual, wavy, slopes to SE
