Unit 13174
Category: Layer dug in 2006
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: midden
Data Category Information: Location: external; Deposition: finely bedded
Discussion: distinctive midden layer - yellow/grey - a mix of ashy waste and yellow mudbrick material. spread across the south & west of the midden area but faded away to the north & east.
Recognition: had been aware of this layer as distinctive for some time pre-ex alongside the east wall of B66 - yellow/grey colour
Definition: clear - except faded away/thinned gradually to nothing on N edge
Execution: mattock
Condition: dry
Consistency: friable
Colour: pale grey/yellowish grey
Texture: sandy silt - ashy
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: freq small/med animal bone; occ pot; mod obsidian
Post-depositional Features: truncated to east by Byzantine foundation cut - not directly truncated by grave cut (13198), but layer appeared to 'respect' the stones (13152) over the grave, so possibly this layer truncated on S side when the stones place over grave?
Basal Boundary: abrupt; distinct; smooth; inclined west to east & south to north; smooth
