Discussion: At the top of the pit, we found some bones, charred remains and tiny red paint piece. When we went down, a cluster of bone appeared. After cleaning, we realised that X4,X5,X6,X7 and X8 were the pieces of a hand bone. In the middle of these bones, a tooth was found (X2).The south of these bones, and the west of the pit (X1), a rib bone was found. And the beneath of (X1) we found another bone (X8). We put all these bones in separate bags in another big bag.
We reached the bottom of the 1364 at the point of 1012.617.Thickness of the fill is about 6 cm.
8/9/96; continued dig up. We found some human bones but it was very top level.
8/9/96; dig up was continued.
10/9/96; Stone, obsidian, burnt clay were found.
11/9/96; Skeleton is coming. We left it for anthropologists.
This is clear several fills/re-cut of the same pit, which haven't been recognised in excavation; much of this is probably part of the latest at & fill; however at least one earlier cut has been subsequently recognised cut at the level of the sub-floor packing, sealed by floors (1459)=GML 16/9/96.

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

Unit description: Small unit with bits of animal bone mixed with copious human bone. Much of the human bone has a distinctive dark brown color not shared by the animal bone, although a few human pieces are lighter. The animal bone is somewhat variable in color, but mostly light brown when unburnt. There is some burning, mostly not too intense. Mostly sheep-size taxa, but a few fragments of large mammal. Sample 3 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recoreded completely. Human phalanx removed without recording. Otherwise mostly sheep-size scrap, little crumbles. Mostly rather weathered and rolled. Looks like fill. Sample 6 >4mm flotation 100% sorted and recorded completely. With large quantities of human bone removed (not recorded), this sample is smallish, and contains mostly fairly small fragments of sheep-size scrap. All body areas represented except for feet. Some digestion, fair amount of low temperature burning. Except for a couple of tooth roots, the human bone in this sample is not burnt. Quite fragmented. Weathering somewhat variable, mostly rather rolled/kicked around. Looks like fill. Sample 7 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. This sample consisted almost entirely of crumbles of human bone, some of it burnt. This was removed without recording. This left three little bits of scrap and a sheep/goat tarsal, all burnt to varying degrees at low temperatures. The tarsal is quite fresh; the others seem rather rolled. Looks like a little bit of fill sifting down into the burial. Last number = 69
