Unit description: Small unit, but with relatively sizable pieces of bone. Mostly sheep-size, but substantial amount large mammal. Some light burning. Sample 6 includes a sheep/goat maxilla and some fragments of large mammal scapula. X1 is a group of bones sticking out of the wall, apparently set deliberately set into it, although they don't seem to make a lot of sense. The only thing unusual in the group is a piece of a wolf (probably) ulna, well-chewed by dogs or other carnivores (i.e., not set in the wall originally as a wolf leg). Aside from a carpal, the rest of this group consists of large mammal long bone and rib shaft fragments. Could these have been set in the wall to provide a base for some feature applied on top of them, since lost? Sample 1 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. Large mammal nearly equal in amount to sheep-size. Fairly fragmented, but not all tiny pieces; most 1-4 cm. Some burning. Not very weathered but some pieces look kicked around. No coherence. Looks like fill. Sample 8 is material from the dry sieve, unwashed! A few pieces of mostly large mammal scrap. One burnt at high temperatures. Not very weathered. Looks like small amount of midden. F25 (07 long bone shaft frag, which came in with X1) removed for C14 to UK, 15/8/01. LM Last number = 52Figurine Records: No GroundStone Records: No Heavy Residue Records: No Microfaunal Records: No
