Unit 15158
Category: Layer dug in 2010
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: arbitrary layer,room fill
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 2,9m x 2,7m x 0,69 to 0,2m
Discussion: This is a transitional area between buttresses F.5052, 5053/5054, 5057, 3326. The unit started as a clarification of buttress F.5052
This is why the initial top levels do not describe the whole area. Please see drawing 10/519 for all taken levels.
The area was filled with heterogeneous soil - loose room fill similar to adhacent units - construction debris as in Spaces 340, 341 and phytoliths and in pot cluster U.15160. This supports the interpretation of the area as a transitional space. Significantly, the area underlies burial F.5060, whidh had disturbed buttress F.3326 and the soil has been trampled on for two years. This is why it is difficult to assess whether the double plaster lines indicate large buttresses or older buttresses/ walls around buttresses F.5052 and 3326. I would argue the double lines around 5052 indicate a large buttress with mortar line, and the double lines around 3326 indicate an older wall, as there were still artefacts lying over the shaded area.
Recognition: bordered by plaster lines
Definition: arbitrary borders limited by buttresses (F.5052, 5053, 5054, 5057) and burial F.3316
Execution: trowel, hand pick, brush, water spray, large pick
Condition: dry, hot weather, under shelter, soil trampled for two years
Consistency: compact, with firm lumps of clay and plaster pieces
Colour: patches of yellow, grey; black mudbrick strips, white plaster lines
Texture: silty clay
Bedding: heterogeneous fill, with lumps of clay/ mortar to the west, plaster and phytoliths to the south
Inclusions: clay lumps, mud brick, plaster/ frequent in SW corner, small pot sherds and animal bones - not particularly frequent, a worked sherds and a bone tool
Post-depositional Features: animal burrows, middle truncated by burial F.5060
Basal Boundary: arbitrary - flat

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
