Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: Trench 5

Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: NS: 230 cm; EW: 240 cm; Depth: 100 cm
Discussion: This unit was the lowest layer of pit fill from the whole of f. 3331. The unit was not deep since a potential floor was recognized underneath fairly soon after beginning excavation. Above this floor (of sp. 454), which appears to correlate with a similar discovery in the NE corner of sp. 310/453 on the same level, there may be a few cm of room fill, but the distinction between the pit and the room fill is ambiguous. The unit contained similar inclusions to the rest of f. 3331, i.e. pottery, human bone, large fragments of tile. On the eastern side there is a plaster line that appears to run straight from the wall in sp. 310 (N-->S). As this line continues to the southern edge of the pit it appears disturbed but there may be some mudbrick deposit which has been left at the SE side of the pit base. The base of the pit has been defined (the destinction between 16928 and 16933) by two layers of soil, apparent through one peeling off the other.
Recognition: Arbitrary level of base of f. 3331, cut seen in sp. 454
Definition: loose soil with many inclusions, cut seen in sp. 454
Execution: pick, shovel, trowel

Inclusions: human bone, animal bone, pottery, stone, shell, obsidian
Post-depositional Features: Animal burrows
Basal Boundary: roughly flat - meeting potential romfill of sp. 454 or floor of sp. 454 (u. 16933)
