Unit 17919
Category: Layer dug in 2008
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: infill,levelling
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: c. 0.15 - 0.2 m depth
Discussion: Whilst this unit allocated to Space 334, it actually predates the creation of the space when partition F.1654 was introduced.
Excavated out of sequence. Originally thought to be continuation of overlying (17910) but during excavation realised that (17910) was a thin and irregular skim of occupation debris overlying this homogenous layer which ran under partition F.1654 and so was separated off.
It appears to be differential infilling, the last infilling / levelling deposit deposited prior to construction of internal features. This would suggest, and by tip lines faintly visible, that infilling of underlying Building 84 was filled from east and south directions thereby this NW corner had to be levvelled off and apparently with very fine and clean material, probably whatever was found at this final stage of infilling but also construction of new house, even the mudbrick material from which the new house was constructed.
