Discussion: Tightly flexed neolithic child burial (~2 yrs +/- 8 mths) in oval grave cut in northwest platform of building 49. Lowest (earliest?) in the sequence of burials for this platform. Oriented with head to south and feet to north. Appears to have been placed in a reed basket as there are thick phytolith remains at the bottom of the grave cut, directly underneath the skeleton, as well as at the sides of the cut (Phytolith samples taken as part of grave fill). Also appears to be phytolith remains on cranium. Large shell (17938.x1) placed above the feet/ankles of this child. Underside contains red pigment.
