Interpretive Categories: Pit lining

Data Category Information: none

Dimensions: 4.30m X 2.60m X 0.20m

Discussion: Laminated floor-like sequence, very obvious around the sides of the pit, but less clear at the base (bottom of the pit). Excavation had gone beyond the lining slightly and only hald the associated fill excavated to aid in identifying the lined pit as of 10/08/2009. The interpretation is not clear, possibly a storage or mixing pit. Thin charcoal lense at base may indicate function or initial function. Disturbances in the middle could be from mixing. If the pit were a storage pit, it would have been relined repeatedly.

Recognition: laminated pit lining similar to house floors

Definition: clear

Execution: mattock, trowel -- first half removed with (18153) as thought to be collapse in the fill initially.

Condition: Hot

Consistency: Compact

Colour: alternating off-white, mid-gray, black, brown

Texture: clay-silt

Bedding: laminated, towards middle laminations less clear, perhaps more disturbed

Inclusions: none

Post-depositional Features: cut by [18150] and [18160]

Basal Boundary: very clear black lense at base
