Unit 18368
Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: fill,mortar
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: This unit is the mortar found in the gap between the southern wall of B.107 (F.2426) and the northern wall of B.105 (F.5051). Amidst the normal fill that would be expected was noticed many many bits of mortar similar to the mortar of the upper walls of B.107. It appears that this mortar was deliberately placed in the gap in order to seal it, but it is also possible that it had merely fallen in the gap as the building collapsed. Although this seems less likely as the gap would be filled with similar quantities of mudbrick rubble and what not. It is also notable that it is only B.107 mudbrick within the gap and none from B.105. If it is placed in the gap it could also indicate that B.107 was erected after B.105 was standing. The mortar was sampled for material analysis and for comparison with that of B.107.
