Discussion: Unit 20089 is a make-up layer belonging to central east platform F.3440. This very compact and quite thick (~2,5 cm) layer was very distinctive cause of its contrasting orange brown colour, consistency of soil and texture.
This unit was found underlaying the thick plaster layer (U.20079). It is likely this make-up layer was applied shortly before a plastering event. This unit was determined as a compound layer since ashy lenses with charcoal fragments at the bottom were revealed in depressions.
Established that this highly burned and loose material is not in situ. That is the main reason why the ashy layer had been included to this unit. It was speculated moreover that this ashy layer exposed solely in depression / niche parts had been imposed of some disinfection purposed or as an unpleasant smell absorber. This hypothesis maybe accurate only if these niched indicate precise places, where deceased had been buried.
