Dimensions: 1.30 x 1.14 x 0.05 m 

 

Discussion: This layer was a loose deposit of grey-brown soil contrasting with the lighter, more compact soil around it. At about 5 cm, the soil changed distinctly to this more compact, grey clay loam-- and there was a large pot sherd lying flat at this layer, suggesting it was the base of the pit. 

 

Recognition: rounded extent of looser greyish soil at base of u20180 

Definition: soil color-- though somewhat unclear to S 

Execution: trowel 

Condition: hot, shaded 

Consistency: friable 

Colour: greyish brown 

Texture: sandy silt loam 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: pottery, bone, painted plaster 

Post-depositional Features: - 

Basal Boundary: defined by change to light grey compact clay layer
