Unit 20686
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Burial fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: This unit is defined as the burial fill of F.3697. U.20625 lay above and the exact boundaries between the two were not clear. The decision to make a new unit was made when there were signs of articulated bones that could belong to an individual (which was also the case). There were some loose bones in the fill that could belong to earlier burials. Some of the bones from the articulated individual also lay loose in the fill indicating some sorts of disturbance. There was an animal burrow truncating the burial at the southernmost part of the feature towards the bottom. Orange materials were found at the bottom of the burial (beneath the skeleton) and likewise orange material was found under the wooden artifact that was found beside the cranium. There were also traces of some brown, possible organic material in connection with a concentration of finds (different kinds of beads, a possible stalactite and stones). A black substance in connection with the thorax was, like all the other materials, sampled. The unit was excavated using a trowel and small wooden tools.
