Unit 2091
Category: Cluster dug in 1997
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: owl pellet layer ?
Data Category Information: Location: midden; Material: owl pellet; Deposition: primary deposition; Basal Spit: ochre
Dimensions: 50 x 50 cm, 0.14 m depth
Discussion: Dense small microfauna in greyish brown silt loam with phytoliths.
<Microfauna well preserved with teeth still intact in jaws - suggestive of owl pellets according to Rissa Russell and Peter Andrews.
If analyses confirm that this layer is from owl pellets, it suggests a period of abandonment after deposition of red layer (2011)
There are variations across the layer with lenses of orange deposit ?derived form decayed bone of Peter Andrews SW; and fewer bone fragments in a layer with large strips of articulates phytoliths lying haphazardly / randomly in NE of deposit.
Deposit excavated in 10cm grid squares, and prised out in in tact lumps as far as possible along interface with underlying red deposit. The red deposit appears to be an upper layer of tow layers of red. Blocks of white plastered moulded shapes emerging below deposit.
2091 ?pellet deposit - varies in thickness from 0.5 to 2 cm

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
