Unit 20920
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: inter-wall infill,packing material
Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: The inter-wall infill was placed between the Eastern wall of B 108 (F.3627) and the Western wall of B. 113 (F.3647). The unit was exposed after execution of F.3627. Relatively thinner in section/profile, but also wider in plan than others infills, unit 20920 represents actually just the upper part of the bigger inter-wall infill comprised of 2 more layers below. It was sitting on a single horizontal course of varied bricks that seems to be a kind of wedge performed probably to prevent slumping of the wall F.3627 Eastward (see also unit sheet 20937). And under the bricks there is a 3rd sequence of the fill assigned as U.20939. The upper part of the infill (namely 20920) was complex in nature. There were a number of crushed bricks and smashed mortar. The most significant for the unit were the wide spectrum and quantity of artifacts along with two horn cores (X1 and X4) probably from the same bucranium installation set directly on the surface of bricks (20937) probably as a kind of special deposit.
