Unit 21560
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Mudbrick of N wall of space
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: brick; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Mudbrick of N wall, highly eroded at the top and therefore very crumbly and soft. Animal bones, charcoal and plant impressions have been frequently encountered, having been incorporated to the construction materials during manufacture.
The base of the wall has been almost completely destructed by rodent activity. Several burrows and chambers that go deep into the floor and the adjacent N wall F.3682 have made the structure unstable and have broken the stratigraphic relationships.
The mudbrick also contain pieces of charcoal, most likely included in the process of constructing the mudbrick.
In understanding the north wall, 2-3cm of plaster was removed towards the top of the feature.
The north wall is divided by an alcove cut, U.21582. To the west of the alcove at the base of wall was a layer of packing, the function of which is unclear, although it might represent a foundation deposit.
