Unit 21636
Category: Skeleton dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: primary,secondary
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: not excavated in 2014:
The excavation witi the feature (7640) was ceased at the stage of revealing human bones (Sk.-21636) in its southern part. The estimated time of further exploration would have not allowed to accomplish the work by the end of the 2014 season.
2015 SEASON:
The preliminary examination of the skeleton-21636 indicated that the human remains belonged to young-adult male(?). The feature must be regarded in term of primary burial dedicated to one person, however there are some vital signs of the distinctive funeral rite treatment. It is essential to note for instance that the body most probably was contained in tightly wrapped organic material (21630_S11) and kept somewhere out, and after some time after decomposition of the soft tissues the “package” had been buried within the pit executed in the room-fill of B.132. The latter assumptions base on several data within which the most convincing is alignment and location of the bones of left forearm which must have been detached at some point, and then placed again into the wrappings just before burring the individual. Crushed and flattened cranium may indicate also highly advanced decomposition of the brain. Additionally, the degree of the bone fractions, cracks, and pattern of brackish evidenced on the whole skeleton as well as missing part of the body, along with placement of the feet (c.a. 8cm beneath the skeleton) point that the body was almost completely skeletonized when it was placed into the ground.
All of the above mentioned data allow to precise more the interpretation and categorize it as an example of the “delayed burial”.
