Description: Two parallel courses of bricks placed under the southern wal(s) of B.77

Discussion: The unit number 22088 was assigned to distinguish two parallel courses of bricks placed under the southern limit of the B.77. The context allows to interpret the presented bricks as a kind of base or a foot for the planed wall(s): F.3096/7301. Both rows consisted of 7 bricks (0,85m x 0,30m x0,07-8m) oriented E-W along each other. The northern row might be obviously regarded as the foundation layer because on top of it the mentioned wall(s) had been erected. The southern course of bricks accordingly should be considered as a kind of support, whose aim was to prevent floating presented before foundation. Sustaining purpose of the southern course is more credible if one may take into account that the construction phase of the structure (F.3096/7301) involved performing foundation trench (F.7591) to set the wall(s) within the desirable position. The latter might have been achieved by immediate loading back the ditch that was recorded along northern face of the mud-brick construction. In that circumstances the infill (U.22075) of the foundation trench might have caused disadvantageous pressure of the deposits accumulated much higher on the northern side of the wall than those located along the southern face. For that reason during the construction people decided to set additional course of bricks placed aside, along the southern face of the foundation part of the wall(s) probable to maintain its line.
Despite the fact that bricks within U.22088 were similar to those recorded in the upper part of the wall(s) as well as their alignment correspond clearly with the mentioned feature(s) F.3096/7301, the two courses of bricks were distinguished under separate unit due to several reasons. (a.) First one was related with their settings under the surface of surrounded deposits and floor of B.77, that created the assumption of probable foundation purposes. (b.) Second reason was involved with the texture of mortar used to join the bricks all over the unit. The mentioned paste was the same material as mortar (U.20611) within the wall F.3096. (c.) However, the most significant factor was related with the recording on top of the northern bricks (U.22088) one undisturbed layer of mortar aiming to joint the first course of bricks (U.20611, U.30149) of actual wall(s) (F.3096/7301). The latter might be important considering the fact that within the whole wall F.7301 main material used as mortar was pure clay. All of the above mentioned data indicate that erection of the wall(s) in spite of the obvious differences in mortar component (mid-grey sandy-silt in F.3096 and pure clay in F.7301) must have been intentional choice and have to be regarded as one event involved with creation southern limit of the B.77 within the previously prepared foundation trench (F.7591) and setting on its bottom the base registered as U.22088.
