Unit 2222
Category: layer dug in 1997
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Room fill
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Plaster and brick on east side, expanding to include all east half of unit except southeast corner, which is still continuing bricky fill. In western half is not really any bricky fill, but is decomposing brick, plaster, and possibly platform matrix. Don't forget little wall in the balk. We were afraid that the white plaster is a floor, but Wendy doesn't think so. As the wall fill is excavated, is red burned fill underneath. The white brick is left intact.
21/8/97: upon diggin further a small bead ( 5 mm diam) was found in sieving, a small piece of greenstone was also found, both in the SE part of the unit. Along the edge of the plaster "feature" there is a deposit of burned structural clay and reddish brick material (see sketch).

Unit description: Small unit consisting of bone from both 07 and 03 size animals, fragmentation appears low but there has been a fair amount of modern damage. NR 2002: Recorded several small additional bags of dry sieved and the flot. The extra dry sieved has almost equal amounts of sheep-size and large mammal, all with degraded surfaces from proximity to the ground surface. Fragmentation seems relatively low, though. There are no vertebrae or toes, but otherwise a fairly even body part distribution. Looks like dirty fill, or maybe a bit of midden. Sample 2 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded as diagnostics and flot frags. This is a sample of moderate size, and generally similar to the dry sieved, although of course there are more small fragments. It still seems relatively unfragmented, though. There is a little fish and microfauna. Little or no digestion. Last number = 83Figurine Records: Yes
