Unit 22287
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Plaster and make up on floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: occupation; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)
Description: Several layers of plaster, with one thick (ca 3cm) make up layer.
Discussion: At times very difficult to follow as one complete floor level. This is why this unit is to be considered as a compound layered unit, made up of plaster and make up. The plaster was very worn down, most likely from usage, making it difficult to approximate the number of plaster layers. It was very brittle over all, but especially so in the south, where it seemed to have been heavily burnt (see F7765 for more discussion on this).
Notable is the fact that the orange colour of the thick makeup layer can be found behind the plaster on the walls in space 255, on a floor level in space 290 and on a patch of floor found between walls F2183 & F2140.
This orange colour comes from burnt pieces of plaster, which I connect to the eastern part of oven F2195, and the superstructure that now is gone. The idea is that the oven structure was demolished and used as building material, as space 91 & 92 was created with the construction of wall F2183, which rests on the floor underneath.
Archive sample gathered in north, flotation one bag from south and one from the north.
