Description: Entire unit 2233, which is also feature 155 consists of white plaster.
Plaster color 10 YR 7/2.

Discussion: The part of this unit that lie along the W side of the unit 2220 has an orange tinge to it, the dirt excavated on the W part of the plaster blob was quite bricky whereas the dirt on the S part was whitish and plastery . South part turns out to be a piece fo wall (?) or upright layered plaster 3.5 cm thick 20 cm long , The high, thick plaster surface is about 11 cm thick in many thin horizontal layers.

In between the plaster (feature 155) and the W wall of space 86 there was a scapula found (X1).
It was almost complete but fragile.

30.08.97
In the further cleaning of the feature another complete scapula was uncovered (X2) which has been left in situ since it partially goes under the feature 155. In cleaning the upper parts of the feature discovered a thick layer of plaster which has impression of wood. In the lower part of the unit on the W side of the feature there were 3 frags of large clayballs near to each other (X5). Also further to the south was a fragment of a ground stone (X6).

Next to this feature (155), on its W wall there is a post hole (16 cm in diametar) which may be a part of the screen wall. Wendy thinks that the hole might be of animal origin. We certainly need to find more such holes to claim that it is a posthole for a curtain wall.

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

Unit description: Small unit with an average fragment size, a number of the indeterminate bone fragments come from large mammals but none were present in identifiable portion. A metapodial of fox and a bird identified in addition to the caprine material. NR 2003: Recorded X-finds and flotation samples. X1 is a nearly complete cattle scapula. X4 is a few pieces from the end of the blade of another scapula, with a note that the rest will come out in 1999. It must have been given a different unit number, as we have no more of it labeled 2233. It is interesting that this room also has the scapula phenomenon. Samples 1 and 3 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded as diagnostics and flot frags. Sample 1 is of moderate size, and consists largely of small but not tiny bits of sheep-size scrap. There are a few sheep/goat diagnostics and some large mammal scrap. There is some burning but little or no digestion. The surface condition seems both degraded from being near the ground surface and generally a bit worn and rolled. One fish vertebra. Sample 3 is a bit smaller but otherwise generally similar. It has no fish but a bit of microfauna. Overall, this unit looks like dirty fill or maybe low level midden, with the addition of a couple of placed scapulae. Last number = 83
