Unit 22674
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: post; Deposition: homogeneous
Description: A rectangular post oriented on a north-south axis and abutting post u22696. It was 19x11cm at the top and 19cm deep. Plaster was found to be filling gaps between the post and the posthole. Wood possibly oak.
Discussion: This unit was recognized following the excavation of room fill u. 22635. It is the remnants of a central post in space 500. It was excavated by Marvin Demicoli according to the protocol set by Eleni Asouti. It was cleaned, photographed and eventually excavated. Sediments from the surface cleaning were kept as a sample (S1), while the large charcoal lumps were bagged as a separate sample (S2) from the smaller charcoal fragments (S3) that were sent for flotation. It was impossible to wrap the charred posts in string in order to pull it out as a whole and were therefore excavated trying to extract the charcoal in as large pieces as possible.
