Unit 23245
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Midden
Data Category Information: Location: external; Deposition: finely bedded
Discussion: This unit belongs to a new sequence of layers exposed directly below the 1rt midden sequence deposits U23227. As the unit above, correspond to a layered deposit composed by different episodes of activity with ashes, other organic material (charcoal, bones…) and also “garbage” through in that area before the B-162 and B-17 in what seems to be an open area. All this deposits are still sloping in direction NE-SW, with more or less the same morphological characteristics and coloration than above, but with less presence of charcoal in the composition.
We took a set of samples (S1/S2) for the upper part of this deposit, another set in the middle part (S3/S4) and a new set of samples for the lower part, where the presence of the charcoal was less and also the deposits seems to be more “clean” with less material (S5/S6).
We remove with the same unit number around 0.50 cm of this midden, mostly in a small trench in the deep sounding that extends 3 x 1 m parallel to the western wall of B-162 (from S3 to S6). The excavation of this trench confirmed that the midden extends also below the extension of B-162.
Again and arbitrary we stop the excavation of this layer and assigned a new unit number to a new sequence of layers below (U23249).

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
