Dimensions: 0.50 x 0.30 m/ 15-20 mm thick
Discussion: Collapsed roof/dome/lining material. This material obviously the same as (2860) material which appears to form a lining to the oven or part of the roof of the oven, completely different appearance to (2843) and (2848), red fired appearance, and appears to contain fibrous organic material.
Recognition: Layer previously identified in 1997 season by CC, no. as 2004. Recog. from plans, unit sheet + confirmed by CC.
Definition: Well defined.
Execution: Trowel, 1/2 sectioned initially.
Condition: Dry and crackling. Dry and sunny.
Consistency: firm, could lift with trowel as cracked but very firm
Colour: 7.5 YR 6/6 reddish yellow (dry)
Texture: fine silt, clay? with sand fraction?
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: impressions of plant material apparently within material
Post-depositional Features: n/a
Basal Boundary: abrupt/prominent/smooth/flat
