Unit 30243

Category: Layer    dug in 2013

Area: TPC

Interpretive Categories: pit infill

Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous

Discussion: It is a continuation of the hellenistic pit which was recognized and excavated in the previous year. It was clearly visible on the surface of U.30245 which was brown and orange. The pit was dark brown and grey on the top, consistency of its soil was much softer. The pit was very distinctive and during the exploration its borders were easy to recognize. The infill was homogenous with some clay inclusions and at the bottom in the SW part of the pit clay rubble appeared. There were also some phytoliths and charcoal. From the infill we had three x-finds - very eroded stone axe, a fragment of spindle whorl and a small obsidian tool, worked on both sides. The bottom of the pit was very clear - it was 2-3 cm thick clay layer. Maybe it's a floor of b.110 in which the pit is, but we are not sure.

It turned out that the clay layer was not the bottom. Probably it was connected with clay rubble. It was very distinctive. The bottom of the pit appeared about 10 cm deeper and it was orange soil like the rest of the infill in B.110.
