Discussion: The plastered surface lay underneath a layer of ash so it was easily identified by its color. The white was an obvious contrast to the black color of the ash. The origin of this unit is that it was placed down at the bottom of the bin f.3993, and on its sides. The fact that the bin is plastered suggests that the bin may not have been an oven as previously thought. Usually plaster is reserved for objects meant for display, not something like an oven which will become sooty anyways. The surrounding bins were plastered similarly to this unit. The unit was excavated by scraping with a trowel.
