Unit 30297
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: bricks of wall
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: brick; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: This unit was initially recognized in the 2012 season, although its full extent was not realized until after the excavation of u.30246 (the occupation layer/destruction deposit) associated with building 120. It represents a layer of post-Neolithic mud-bricks, grey in color and extremely compact, packed up against irregular, sloping terracing cut [30229]. Some of them on the Western half were extremely burnt. This wall (these bricks) were once covered with a layer of wall plaster which helped us identify this construction as post-Neolithic. The unit was excavated with mattock and spade.
Consistency: extremely compact
Colour: grey
Texture: mud-brick
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: charcoal, ash, plaster specks
Post-depositional Features: burning, collapse, erosion, animal burrows
Basal Boundary: mostly clear-- came down onto cut into Neolithic mud-brick material [30229]
