Discussion: This unit differed from the previous (above) unit by its matrix which had a lot more ash and charcoal. It seems to be a dump as its boundaries diffused to the rest of the fill to the south and did not seem to represent an in situ burning layer. It is possible that some of the charcoal and ash originates from a midden. This actually seems to be an infill layer - perhaps not the typical homogenous building material mixes but certainly a part of the infilling process of the smaller room. 

 

Consistency: loose 

Colour: grey 

Texture: ash and silty clay 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: charcoal, phytolith remains, mudbrick, plaster bits
