Discussion: Discovered whilst trying to excavate 3169, this unit seems to consist of a different floor level breaking down onto a distinctive dark grey layer beneath. 

 

Recognition: found whilst excavating 3169, recognisable by colour and distinctive basal boundary 

Definition: fairly clear to S wallF.263, less distinct to N 

Execution: trowel 

Condition: dry and crumbly 

Consistency: solid 

Colour: 10 YR 7/2 light grey 

Texture: silty clay 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: charcoal 2%, stone 2% 

Post-depositional Features: some salt inclusions 

Basal Boundary: distinctive anthropogenic boundary, prominent contrast in colour, fairly smooth and even
