Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: niche; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: Building rubble located by the northern wall above the northwestern corner of platform F. 7950.This deposit was left from the previous year to keep the northern wall stable. It is a heterogeneous deposit that consists from a mixture of different building materials, including mud brick, mortar, and plaster. During its excavation it became apparent that the much of the deposit actually belongs to a elongated narrow but deep niche that was carved into the northern wall immediately above the platform. Large chunks of wall plaster that must have been removed from the standing walls was placed face down onto the latest surface of the niche as part of its blocking / abandonment. These large pieces of plaster were particularly placed at the deep end of the niche. The boundary between this type of rubble and the niche surface towards the niche's end contained a smooth pure silty clay textured matrix that was orange in colour due to burning. This may be evidence for the prior infill of the niche before the brunig of the building. The niche's opening, in contrast was filled with a dark grey silty and ash rich heterogeneous deposit. The eastern end of the niche infill remains in situ. BT 7/6
