Interpretive Categories: surface

Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Material: white clay; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted

Description: Composite layer comprised of a grey white plaster surface and a mid red brown levelling deposit. The levelling element of the context has been described.

Plaster: soft grey white marl. Massive bedding with very occasional flecks of charcoal and phytolith impressions as a part of the matrix of the deposit.

Discussion: Though the interface with the upper context 32520 was 'smooth' in that it had little varience in clarity or depth it was not 'even' because 32532 itself was an uneven context varying in depth 0.03m north to south (the north was higher). This difference occurred abruptly 1.66m for the Bench F7966 along a fracture line which had created a step in the context 32532. Nor was 32532 in good condition with the plaster surface being ruptured in several places to reveal the rubble formation deposit.

A resurfacing of Platform F.7952 to mitigate subsidence to the east?

Consistency: friable (biscuit like)

Colour: mid red brown

Texture: silt fired clay

Bedding: massive

Inclusions: occasional small flecks of charcoal

Post-depositional Features:

Basal Boundary: Anthropogenic; very sharp; distincy; smooth
