Unit 3347
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: infill
Data Category Information: Location: external; Deposition: finely bedded
Dimensions: 0.72 x 0.71 x 0.390
Discussion: (3347) consists of a layer of soft ash and charcoal rich material which was the remnant of a few larger deposit (1066) wihin space 105. What was left of it was a sliver at the material above the surface of wall F.28, along its E and S extents. It appears to be one of several layers of "rubbishy" material (including (3359) and (3730)) that accumulated over a period of in-filling of space 105 (to the S).
Recognition: A soft ashy layer that was clearly different to those above and beneath.
Definition: Defined by its different material.
Execution: Trowel and pick.
Condition: Dry.
Consistency: friable-loose
Colour: 2.5 Y 4/2 dark greyish brown
