Unit description: Flot sample 2337, 2338 This unit was one of the ashy spreads/caches found by Craig in the southwest corner of Building 2, space 117. These seem to have been a series of shallow dips in the floor containing a variety of materials. 4137 contains most of the left and right paw of a small carnivore, maybe a wild cat? This entire group of bones was given one X number in the field, but have been given a series of F numbers in this database. The group of small sesamoids found in the flot sample 2337, 2mm fraction have been entered as a single record. The carnivore bones were, in general, one weathering stage better than the rest of the bones in the sample and had less manganese staining. All of the breakage was modern. It seems likely that the bones were covered in skin when deposited and buried rapidly. Two flot samples were taken from this unit 2337 and 2338. The small carnivore was only found in 2337, further suggesting that the paws were articulated. 3 bones from this animal were found in 4139. They habeen bagged with the rest of the paws. The rest of the sample (from the 4mm flot) contained a few very small pieces of sheep and cow-sized animals. it also contained a large number of tiny bone chips, 2 cm and less. They were not burnt. NB: The carnivore is almost certainly a felid, species as yet undetermined. Last Number = F67Figurine Records: No GroundStone Records: No Heavy Residue Records: No Microfaunal Records: No
